Paul to Folks, 1942 Jan 29
January 29, 1942Dear Folks,
This might not be too long as we are going over to Rotary club in a few minutes to give them the ‘works’. It is going to be a lot of fun and a good meal besides, and they do serve good food.
It was very nice to hear from you so soon. I certainly enjoy hearing all about everything and everybody. How do you like this idea of no Union meetings, I suppose you haven’t had time to find out yet have you?
I can’t figure out just what is the ‘deal’ on missionaries. Geraldine said that they weren’t sending and more Girls out as missionaries but I see by last weeks ‘News’ that they sent out a few last week and some more go in on the 4th of Feb. It will certainly make a lot of changes around here if they stop sending missionaries out as we will lose a lot of our missionaries in a few months. We finally got some good weather for a change and we have been doing a lot of work and it really seems good. If I don’t get up early and really push things a lot we don’t get out very early but we have been doing a lot better for the past few days. We gave a slide lecture last night to some Catholics and they enjoyed it very much, so much in fact that we are going out there for dinner on Sunday. We don’t know how Father Manley will like it but we also don’t care very much. We have several other appointments to fill so the time goes by faster and I am much happier that I was when there wasn’t very much doing.
The weather has been funny for a long time We have only a trace of snow and it has been rather warm until today and it is just nice (I think so but Elder Fish doesn’t like it very much). We may be able to get in a little skating some day soon, I hope.
I’m not at all surprised that Gordon doesn’t like school. He didn’t seem to have very much interest when I saw him last and I don’t imagine he will change much. I am certainly glad that I waited a year before I went and it would have done him a lot of good if he had done the same. A mission would have been very nice but he isn’t old enough and the army will probably have him first. Thomas will appreciate his school a lot more when he gets to go, if-------.
I haven’t very much more time and I can’t think of much more to write right now so I’ll close. Thanks for the info. on the Registration. That is what I planned to do but it is nice to know that it is all O.K. That is te thing the authorities, church, advise to be done.
Love
Paul
P.S. I didn’t do so well and didn’t get this mailed so I’ll continue for a minute or so. We really had a fine time at the meeting. The dinner was very good and I enjoyed the speaches especially the last one (mine). As usual I ran out of time long before I ran out of something to say so we had a little session afterward which lasted for some time. We had two men who were very interested in various parts of what we had to say. They asked us to come back and we will just as soon as they will set a definite date for us. I’ll really quit this time.
As ever
Paul
