Geraldine and Paul to Folks, 1941

Dear Folks:

Paul wrote this before he left for the train and I was to mail it, but I just didn’t have time. We were so rushed cause we all came home so late that we just dashed to get dinner ready and over with in time to hurry to the train. I went straight to choir practice and then to the reception for Lois up to Mabel’s so all in all it was a rushed day.

All the relatives cam to see Paul off, Ruth, Grace, Mabel, Holly and all. Aunt Lydia and Edna were of course there and Billy and Myrle. They gave him a present and letters to read. It was really quite an affair and as the train left almost on time, it wasn’t so sad either. I fixed a nice big box of lunch and so did Aunt Lydia so he was well prepared. The girl that he thinks is so nice was on his train. He was in charge of the missionaries in his group. It is hard to believe he has actually gone. For so long I have wished for it and now that it has happened it is too wonderful to believe.

Lois and Vadier looked so happy. Dean and I played the wedding march, there was rice and all.

It is the road show tonight and as it is late I really must stop now, but I will write soon.

Love

Geraldine

[Paul's letter enclosed by Geraldine:]

Dear Folks,

Just a note to let you know that all is going fine. We are nearly to Cheyenne & I am enjoying the trip very much. The train was late in leaving.

There is snow on the ground here & it looks mighty good.

All of the family came down to see me off. Lydia, Edna, Farnesworths, Sheldon, Pearces, Bagley’s & Louis. It made me feel good to see I had a few friends. I’ll keep you posted as we go. We spend all day Friday in Chicago.

Love

Paul
